History of the Fete

Elsdon can trace the history of the Fete back as far as the 13th Century. In 1281 Edward I granted William de Umfraville the right to hold a three-day fair in Elsdon around the Feast of St Bartholomew. The annual St Bartholomew Fair continued until the 19th Century. It was later organised by the Vicar of St Cuthbert's Church and held in the grounds of Elsdon Tower which was then the rectory. It was during this time the fair became a fete.

Elsdon Fete is organised by volunteers from the community.
